Objectives and actions #TeamNatura

The overall objective of LIFE15 GIE/IT/000897 project

The #TeamNatura project (LIFE15 GIE/IT/000897) was created with the aim of creating a network of volunteers to contribute, with concrete actions, to the management of Natura 2000 sites, the most valuable places in our country.

A new model based on a network of volunteers in action to monitor and survey a number of sites belonging to the Natura 2000 network, in collaboration with the local management Bodies.

Another important goal of the project is to make the local communities aware of the importance of the Natura 2000 Network.

Specific objectives

Specifically, the objectives of the project are:
- Creating a group of volunteers (named local conservation groups, GLC).
- Making GLC's actions more effective through specific training and through a real volunteers’ coordination in the monitoring and surveillance of the Natura 2000 selected sites.
- Having GLC raising population and local stakeholders' awareness in some selected Natura 2000 sites.
- Stablishing an effective collaboration between GLC and Italian management Bodies of Natura 2000 selected sites.

Actions and means involved

In order to achieve the objectives set up, a specific online training portal will be set up for recruitment, remote learning and information exchange gathered by volunteer groups.

GLC groups will be coordinated and monitoring and surveillance actions will be coordinated in each of the 15 selected sites and a computer archive will be created with all the information gathered at the project's website
Activities, such as meetings and festivals, will be carried out with the aim of raising awareness and involving the population and stakeholders in Natura 2000 sites.

Expected results (outputs and quantified achievements)

Recruit at least 150 new volunteers forming 15 Local Conservation Groups (GLCs) to monitor and survey 15 selected Natura 2000 sites.

Increase the knowledge of volunteers on the Natura 2000 network and, through field activities, collect data on species of interest that will be monitored during design by contributing to the positive resolution of threats and damages.

Help to make citizens, local administrations, associations aware on the importance of the Natura 2000 Network.

VOLUNTEERS
FOR NATURE

The #TEAMNATURA LIFE project was born with the aim of constructing a network of environmental volunteers that can help to protect and monitor the sites of the “Natura 2000 Network” (natural areas that are fundamental for the conservation of the European environment and which are therefore protected under EU Directive 92/43/CEE as “Habitats”) as well as disseminate knowledge of the “Natura 2000 Network” in Italy. A network of volunteers to assist in the active management of the “Natura 2000 Network”
